The Long Road

Marianas variety reported that the Commonwealth Casino Comission (CCC) gave IPI the nod to launch gaming operations at the Imperial Pacific Resort. The Resort has been subject to a number of development delays but the company said it plans to hold an “official opening ceremony at the Resort on or before July 15th”.

As it stands, IPI currently have a temporary Saipan casino in operation. The terms and conditions of the IPI’s gaming license stated that the Resort had to be open to the public before gaming activity could be permitted on the premises. In April, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) Lottery Commission gave IPI an extension to complete the first phase of the Resort. IPI then tried to amend the terms of the license agreement to state that the gaming venue should be allowed to open, even though the hotel cannot yet welcome guests overnight. This was challenged by the Office of the Attorney General. However, on Thursday, the Lottery Commission determined that the license amendment would be in the best interest of the CNMI and IPI. As a result, IPI are now allowed to launch Saipan casino.

It has been a long road for IPI, there Resort is behind schedule and they are working hard to pay contractors so that the Phase One of the development process can be completed as soon as possible. IPI have stated that the Resort will feature between 200-300 gaming tables, as well as 300 to 400 gaming machines. When the Resort is fully complete, it will also have a total of 350 hotel rooms.
