Types of Bets in Roulette The game of roulette is played on a wheel with numbers ranging from 0 to 36. In American Roulette, the wheel has zero and double zero so there is 38 numbers in total.

Fortunately, the roulette rules are not that complicated at all, but that isn’t to suggest that you should dive straight into the game and play blindly.

The same rules apply when playing online roulette as well. The one thing a roulette player should make out in is the variety of roulette bets as the payouts can vary quite drastically. There are many different types of roulette bets let’s learn some of them.

A bet on one number / Straight Bet

According to its name it is a bet on one number. There is 37 or 38 (depending on the type of wheel used, American or European) different ways to wager that one number will win. It is the hardest to pick but as a result has the best payout odds.

The roulette chip is placed on the selected number to signal the bet.

So lets say for example you were to make a straight bet for \$1. The payout is 35 to 1 so you would win \$35.

A bet on two numbers / Split Bet

It is a bet on two adjacent numbers. You can bet on a combination of 0 (zero) with any of the numbers in the first row being 1, 2 or 3.

With this bet there are actually 62 different ways to wager that one of two adjacent numbers will win.

The roulette chip is placed on the vertical line between the two numbers you want to bet on.

So lets say for example you were to make a split bet for \$1. The payout is 17 to 1 so you would win \$17.

A bet on three numbers / Street Bet

It is a bet on three numbers in one line. e.g. 7, 8, 9.

With this bet there are 12 different ways to wager that one group of three numbers will win.

The roulette chip is put on the horizontal line separating the inner and outer areas of the roulette table.

So lets say for example you were to make a street bet for \$1. The payout is 11 to 1 so you would win \$11.

A bet on four numbers / Square Bet

It is a bet on four numbers located in the square. e.g. 11, 12, 14, 15.

With this bet there are 22 different ways to wager that one group of four numbers will win.

A roulette chip is placed at the corner so that it’s touching four numbers.

So lets say for example you were to make a square bet for \$1. The payout for square bets is 8 to 1 so you would win \$8.

A bet on five numbers (including 0, 00) / Basket Bet

It is a bet on five numbers.

There is only one way to wager that one of the 5 numbers 00, 0, 1, 2 or 3 will win.

The roulette chip is placed on the line dividing the adjoining numbers 1, 2, 3, 0 (Zero) and 00 (Double Zero).

So lets say for example you were to make a basket bet for \$1. The payout is 6 to 1 so you would win \$6.

A bet on six numbers / 2-Row Bet

It is a bet on six numbers. e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

With this bet there are 11 different ways to wager that the group of numbers on two rows of three numbers will win.

The roulette chip is placed at an intersection between two adjacent rows of 3 numbers to signal the bet.

The payout is 5:1 so you would win \$5 on a \$1 bet.

A bet on column numbers / Column Bet

It is a bet on 12 numbers. e.g. first 12 (1-12).

As per the example with this bet there are 3 ways to wager that the winning number will be in the first, the middle or last column of numbers.

The roulette chip is placed in the appropriate box to signal the bet.

The payout for column bets is 2 to 1. So you would win \$2 on a \$1 bet.

A bet on odd/even numbers

It is a bet on odd or even numbers.

With this bet there are only 2 different ways to wager that the winning number will be either odd or even numbers.

The roulette chip is placed in the appropriate box to signal the bet.

If you win betting on odd/even the payout is 1 to 1. So you would win \$1 on a \$1 bet.

If the winning number is 0 or 00 this bet loses.

A bet on red/black numbers

It is a bet on red or black numbers.

With this bet there are only 2 different ways to wager that the winning number will be a red or black number.

The roulette chip is placed in the appropriate box to signal the bet.

If you win betting on red or black the payout is 1 to 1. So you would win \$1 on a \$1 bet.

If the winning number is 0 or 00 (zeros are green) this bet loses.
